Playlist May 26

There’s nothing better than driving with the windows down on a nice day with the music blaring.
Yesterday I made a mixed cd for my car and it’s a great summer playlist.

Here are the tracks:
Matt Costa – Mr. Pitiful
Sublime – What I got
Nofx – Bob
Kings of Leon – Sex on fire
Third Eye Blind – Jumper
Rise Against – Hero of War
Gob – Soda
Goldfinger – I need to know
Unwritten Law – Cailen
Lagwagon – Brown eyed girl
Joel Plaskett Emergency – Work it out
Good Riddance – Always
Tegan and Sara – Fix you up
Mary J. Blige – Love is all we need
Adele – Chasing Pavement
Bob Marley – Is this love
Rancid doing nofx – Stickin’ in my eye
Saves the day – I melt with you
Catch 22 – American Pie
Mighty Mighty Bosstones – So sad to say

There are a few personal rules I have regarding mixed tapes.
1. You can’t have the same artist twice. I kind of bended the rules a bit for this one because I had Nofx and Rancid doing Nofx, but more on why that’s okay later.
2. Any summer mix must include Rancid, Bob Marley and Sublime
3. Genre-specific mixes suck. It’s not a mix unless you mix things up.
4. The more covers, the better.
5. Be prepared for sing-a-longs.

In keeping in my rules, I had to put a Rancid song on the cd… however, after getting my computer wiped I haven’t uploaded all of my cds yet. When I made the mix yesterday, the only Rancid cd I had on this computer was my Rancid/Nofx split album where they covered one another’s songs.

This has since been fixed; I now have all of Rancid’s albums on my computer, including the new one!

Expect many more mixes and posts about them. I’ll be driving a lot because of work and my radio doesn’t work.

A Fine Frenzy – Almost Lovers

I was watching So You Think You Can Dance Canada on Sunday while I was with Dawn. This is not the type of show I usually watch, and I don’t think it will become the type of show I watch anytime soon. So this post isn’t really about the show. Rather, it’s about a song I heard on the show.

In the one audition, a dancer from Vancouver and started to dance to this beautiful slow song. The song lingered in my head long after it ended. In fact, yesterday ( 2 days later!) I found myself looking through Youtube videos of SYTYCDC trying to find her audition so I could google exact phrases from the song.

I love it. Not my usual type of song, but there’s something about her voice that is haunting and beautiful.

Check it out!

Special Dedication: Lying through your teeth

This song goes out to you, Stephen Harper.
While the stuff about cheating doesn’t necessarily apply, because we are not now nor have we ever been in a relationship (thankfully), it’s still overly fitting.

Head Automatica – Lying through your teeth

Everybody knows you’re a liar
Why dont I?
I just heard about your loving on the side

You’re telling tall tales girl
Spinning webs too big to climb
Everybody knows you’re a liar
Why don’t I?

I always knew you were a
I always knew you were a
I always knew you were a fraud

You’re lying through your teeth
You’re not at all, not at all what you seem
You’re lying through your teeth
You’re not at all, not at all what you seem

Girl your love’s so cheap
We’ve been passing you around
There’s cheating on your lips
And you’ve been the talk of my town

Fix your mask girl
It’s crooked on the sides
And everybody knows you’re a liar
Why dont I?

I always knew you were a
I always knew you were a
I always knew you were a fraud

You’re lying through your teeth
You’re not at all, not at all what you seem
You’re lying through your teeth
You’re not at all, not at all what you seem

Everybody knows you are a liar
Why dont I?
I just heard about your loving on the side
Fix your mask girl
It’s crooked and I’m fine
Everbody knows you’re a liar
Why don’t I?

I always knew you were a
I always knew you were a
I always knew you were a fraud

You lied through your teeth
You’re not at all, not at all what you seem
You’re lying through your teeth
You’re not at all, not at all what you seem

You’re lying through your teeth
You’re not at all, not at all what you seem
You’re lying through your teeth

Playlist August 10th – August 23rd (08)

Yes, this playlist will cover two weeks.
Last weekend I went to Boston and kind of forgot to post my playlist for the week.

Leading up to the trip, I listened to a lot of Dropkick Murphys to get me ready for my girls weekend in beantown. I mostly listened to the live St. Patrick’s Day album.

Once I returned, it was all about the mix on my iPod

There are a few songs that I currently can’t enough of:

Paper Planes – M.I.A. ~ I put this song on one of my Florida mixes back in February, then I sort of forgot about it. Now that it’s all over place, I’ve fallen in love with it all over again. The other night at work, one of the guys I work with comes out with that playing on his laptop and we held an impromptu dance party behind the desk.

Jamaica’s Alright if you Like Homophobes – NOFX ~ A couple of weeks ago my friend mentioned the possibility of going to Jamaica on vacation. While I’m sure it’d be a really nice place to visit, it’s just not on the top of my most desired places at the moment. When she mentioned it, I thought of this song and haven’t been able to get it out of my head since.

It was a Very Good Year – Frank Sinatra ~ On my three hour drive home from Toronto today, I started to grow tired of the cds I have in my car so I decided to put the radio on. Unfortunately, I don’t have fm radio in my car, so I was left with whatever am had to offer. I finally settled on one channel that had Sinatra Saturdays and this song has been running through my head all night at work.

Suggested listenings: the three songs listed above.

Playlist August 3rd – August 9th (08)

This week I’ve been listening to a lot of H2O and I’ve been loving it.

Last week, H2O played two shows in Toronto and I missed them both. I’m not going to lie, I was a little bummed. The band holds a special place in my heart. They were the first band I ever interviewed and the first cd review I ever had published. It ran in my local paper and all of my family and friends got to see it.

They have a new album and I somehow got an advanced copy, so I’ve been listening to it non-stop.

I highly recommend everyone listen to “What Happened”.

Playlist July 22nd – August 2nd (08)

The past week I’ve been listening to a lot of Rancid. Partly because they’ve always been one of my summer choices and mostly because I’m going to see them tonight.

I’ve seen Rancid three times and tonight will be my fourth. I love seeing them live, they always put on such a good show. Although, last time I saw them Tim wasn’t overly friendly with the audience. But according to people who went to the show last night, that’s changed.

The Creepshow and Sick of it All are also playing tonight. It’s gonna be a good show!

Suggested Listening:
Salvation
Roots Radical
Arrested in Shanghai
